2002 Blue Haven Counselors

Jessica was a nine year camper and was a cook in 2000. She attends Harding University and is studying in the field of Interactive Media. She desires to get a master's degree in communications. She was active in girl scouts for thirteen years and was very active in the church, helping in the teaching of children. She was baptized at Blue Haven and desires to give to campers the same blessings she received by attending CBH. Jessica is upbeat and has a cheerful smile to share with everyone.

Sara Gregersen

Sara came to Camp Blue Haven for nine summers as a camper and worked one session as kitchen help in 2001. She is a student at Harding University and has not declared a major. She has a desire to be a missionary in Africa and is minoring in missions. Sara has a long list of credentials as one who has been very involved in the teaching program of the congregation where she grew up. She was also active in LTC and was in girl scouts for three years. Sara sees the counselor position this summer as an opportunity to do for others what was done for her through the camping program. She also sees it as an opportunity to serve God and Blue Haven.

Marcey House

Marcey is the only counselor returning from the group that worked last summer. She knows the CBH program quite well and understands what it takes to make it through the rigors of six sessions. She was a camper for eight years and loves Blue Haven and what it stands for. Marcey is a people person and reaches out to others in many ways. She has a great sense of humor and enjoys life to the fullest. Because of her experience, she will be out front and leading the pack this year.

Lesley Maserang

Lesley camped for seven years at Blue Haven and for two years at Iron Springs. She was a Blue Haven cook in 2001. Lesley is working toward teacher certification in Journalism and English at Texas A&M. She is active in the Aggies for Christ program. Her desire for the summer is to be able to give to campers some of what her counselors gave to her at Camp Blue Haven.

Tara McCain

Tara attended Camp Blue Haven as a camper for seven summers and was on staff as a cook last year. She has worked with children as a YMCA coach and with the Wildcat Kids program at ACU. She is majoring in psychology at ACU. Tara has a long-standing desire to be a Blue Have counselor, due mainly to the great counselors that influenced her by their teaching and example. She now has the opportunity to give to others that which she received. Tara has a million dollar smile and is fun to be around.

Melissa Meyer

Melissa spent five summers as a camper at Camp Blue Haven. She has an Associate Degree from Frank Phillips JC and is now in the nursing program at West Texas A&M, She is a diligent Bible student and has been active at the Bible Chair at WTAMU. Melissa says that her experiences at Camp Blue Haven have changed her life and she considers the opportunity to work as a counselor to be a blessing. She is very athletic and has spent a lot of time in rodeo competition. Her desire is to use her education to become a traveling nurse.

Miriam Scott

Miriam was a nine year camper and a cook last summer. She has participated in YMCA activities, Girl Scouts, and gymnastics. When growing up, she was very active in the youth group of her local church and she taught Bible classes, tutored and participated in mission trips. At Harding University she is working toward an edcucation degree with emphasis on K-8. Miriam has her mind set to give campers the same incredible experience she enjoyed as a camper. She plans to continue her studies to receive a Master's Degree in special education and counseling so she can work with special needs children and their families.

Jennifer Wood

Jen did her camping at Pine Springs and at White River Youth Camp. She has served as a counselor at Pine Springs, LCU Encounter and Serve City Work Camp. As a Lubbock Christian University student she is planning a major in Secondary Education and then to continue her studies in Law School and give emphasis to Educational Law. Jen sees camp counseling as a way to touch the lives of others to glorify God.

Johnny Dopp

Johnny was a Business/Finance major when he started at West Texas A&M. After his experience in working with 5/6 grade campers as a counselor at Camp Blue Haven in 1998 and 1999, he changed his major to Elementary Education and he has been steadily working away at the degree which he hopes to attain in the fall of 2003. He interacts with a lot of people through his school activities and the WT Bible Chair. He is a hard worker and very creative. You will not find a heart that is  more tender or more easily touched. He attended Camp Blue Haven as a camper for two summers but as a college student, he has attended Leadership Camp since it first began. 

 

Kevin Hackett

Kevin was a Blue Haven camper for nine years but came as a pre-camper before that, as his parents served as Bible teachers. His brother, Bryan, was a counselor in 1998. Kevin attended Harding University for one year before transferring to Abilene Christian University to work toward a degree in Youth/Family Ministry. He was in scouting from 1993 to 1999 and earned the Eagle Scout award. Last summer he served as a Youth Minister Intern. Like so many others, he feels a calling to give to others the benefits he received from his summers at Camp Blue Haven.

Eric Lyons

Eric had one year of studies at the University of Oklahoma before enrolling at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he seeks a degree in art education. He came to Camp Blue Haven as a camper for three years. While serving as a Youth Minister Intern last year he brought campers to Camp Blue Haven and served as an assistant to the caretaker. He has served as an Intern at the Bible Chair in Weatherford when they were without a director. Eric is very outgoing and responsible and will serve well in his leadership role this summer. He desires to become a high school art teacher and provide opportunities for youth to develop in ways other than sports.

Jacob Martin

Jacob has great memories of his experiences as a camper at Camp Blue Haven and wants to be a counselor with the hope of making a difference in the lives of those he teaches this summer. At Abilene Christian University, he wants to receive a degree in Human Communication. He has led a church group on Trek. Others see him as a natural born leader, looked up to and respected by those whom he leads. He sees his career as an open field of options but his first goal is to finish college - one day at a time.

Chad Montandon

Chad wants to help campers as he was helped at Camp Blue Haven. Great counselors did great things for him and now he desires to teach others. He was a seven year camper at Camp Blue Haven and also worked two summers as kitchen/caretaker help. Chad holds an Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services from Tyler JC. He will be attending a school in Arizona this fall to take classes in Outdoor Education. He has been very active in youth groups and in the teaching program of the local church.

 

Paul Ritter

Paul attended Camp Bandina for one summer and has been active in 4-H and Scouts as he was growing up. He has been involved in the work of the local church and is now active in Aggies for Christ. Attending Texas A&M has brought him in contact with former Camp Blue Haven campers who have persuaded him that "The place for U in 02 is Blue." Paul wants to graduate with a degree in Chemistry and then work for a pharmaceutical company doing research.

John Paul Sheppard

John Paul is a student at West Texas A&M who plans to attend Lubbock Christian College in the fall. He will continue his studies in Music Education. He worked as a counselor at Copper Basin Bible Camp in Arizona last summer.He is active at the Bible Chair at WTAMU and leads the singing on occasion at the local church. His parents are long-time teachers at Camp Blue Haven. John Paul is very gifted musically and he is respectful and considerate, with much to offer to both campers and staff members this summer.

Benjamin Vickers

Ben is studying civil engineering at Texas University and plans to seek a career in that field, perhaps in transportation or geotechnology. Ben is a nine-year camper at Camp Blue Haven. He also attended the Heart of Texas Bible Camp and served as a counselor there for three years. He loves camp and all the things we do, but emphasizes that the most important thing is to be used to glorify Christ in our lives and lead campers to salvation in Christ.
